Do We Need to Talk About Porn? is Lambeth & Southwark Mind’s 2018 annual lecture aimed at psychotherapists, artists and members of the public who are curious about the complex relationships we have with pornographic and erotic imagery in the modern world. This year’s lecture will consist of an exciting dialogue between a psychoanalyst and an artist, each having investigated the nature of the erotic image from two very different approaches.

Author of Lost Goddesses, A Kaleidoscope on Porn (Routledge / Karnac Books 2017) Jungian analyst Giorgio Tricarico will discuss his particular interest in the phenomenon of internet porn, its relation to consumer culture, and sacred states; whilst contemporary artist Jane Hayes Greenwood will present her recent artwork exploring explicit imagery and themes of consumption, desire and shame. A conversation chaired by Lambeth & Southwark Mind’s Clinical Director Ajay Khandelwal will investigate the correlation between analytic and artistic work and seek to tease out if and how art and analysis might come to understand the pornographic image better together.
