About

Founded in 2011, Block 336 is an art gallery, studio provider and UK-registered charity. From 2024 onwards, Block 336 will shift its focus towards prioritising the creative contributions of disabled people and creating opportunities for more inclusive engagement in the arts. We are currently undergoing renovations to the space, making it more accessible and enhancing our studios with improved facilities and resources to better support disabled artists. In 2025 we will launch a fully subsidised 12-month studio residency programme for disabled people with attached mentoring, workshops, visits and talks.

Since 2012, Block 336 has collaborated with local organisations focused on disability, mental health and supporting young people, hosting a range of projects and events designed for staff, service users and the wider community. We have developed partnerships with Age UK, Artquest, BCA, British Homes, Black Thrive, Baytree Centre, Brixton Inclusive, Carers’ Hub Lambeth, Certitude, Creative Future, Lambeth College, Lambeth & Southwark Mind and the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, Share Community and more.

As a registered charity, Block 336 relies on public grants, voluntary support and private donations to fund its programme. We have received support from Arts Council England, Arts Council Ireland, Cockayne, Culture Ireland, Foyle Foundation, Henry Moore Foundation, GIRLPOWER Collection, Lambeth Council, Mayor’s Trust, Simmons & Simmons Charitable Foundation, Sky Arts and Wellcome Trust.

2011- 2023

Founded in 2011 by Xabier Basterra and Jane Hayes Greenwood working together with Robert Bell and Alex Gough, Block 336 was an artist-run project space that commissioned artists to create new, ambitious, site-specific work. By offering a unique approach and collaborating with artists over an extended period, the organisation provided time, space and support, empowering them to push the boundaries of their studio practice and create exceptional work. The legacy of this work can be explored through the Exhibitions and Events pages.
