Robin Mason COVID-19

In light of the significant financial hardship our organisations and institutions face as a result of COVID-19, Robin Mason has donated 10 new works on paper, especially to help raise funds at this moment of crisis and collective solidarity. The works have been set at a price point that is in line with similar initiatives, with 100% of the proceeds from sales supporting Block 336 and the BA and MA Degree Show funds for City & Guilds of London Art School, where the artist is Head of Fine Art.

Set within ‘forest frames’, these works feature symbolic elements from Mason’s artistic vocabulary. The works, all produced under lockdown conditions, reference elements from decades of images which Mason recently revisited through ‘mining’ his archive of around 200 sketchbooks.  The experience of rediscovering these over the last few months, has been an entanglement of time and image. The process became a looping dialogue where the future and the past met as image, amalgamating the drawn elements of ‘place’, ‘thing’ and ‘event’ into possibilities for new drawings and paintings.

We are expecting high demand for these works, therefore, sales are restricted to one per person and will be offered on a first come, first served basis. With Arts Council project grants and other arts funding streams suspended, like many organisations, Block 336 is experiencing serious financial difficulties.

As a not-for-profit organisation, with no direct government or core funding, City & Guilds of London Art School has limited resources to provide emergency hardship funding to students during the Covid-19 crisis. They are very aware of the pressures that the crisis has put on artists across the community with artists and students losing valuable part time employment during this period. However, if you are able to purchase one of these art works and/or contribute to the Art School student hardship appeal, your gift could help vulnerable students and artists navigate these uncertain times.
