Block 336 is launching a new studio residency! A free, well-lit studio will be provided on site at Block 336 for 3 months. Applications are invited from artists currently living in the boroughs of Lewisham, Southwark, Lambeth or Wandsworth. The studio sits between the main gallery and entrance gallery and will be shared with an artist that is an existing tenant. The total studio space is 26 sq meters with the resident offered one half of this. 

Following the end of the 3-month residency period, Block 336 will host a public-facing open-studio where the artist can present the work they’ve made. 

As part of the submission, we would like to know why this opportunity would be beneficial for you and what you would like to achieve during the residency.

Please note that the building where Block 336 is located does not have 24-hour access and therefore might not be suitable for some artists. Closing times are strict so we ask artists to be out of the building 5 mins prior to building lock up. 


The studio opening and closing times are as follows:

Monday: 8:30am – 7pm

Tuesday: 8:30am – 7pm 

Wednesday: 8:30am – 9pm 

Thursday: 8:30am – 8pm

Friday: 8:30am – 9pm 

Saturday: 9:30am – 3pm 

Sunday: 9:30am – 7pm

The selected artist will be expected to respect Block 336’s Equality and Health & Safety policies and will be given a full induction following selection.

  • Up to 10 images of representative work – please ensure individual images are no larger than 2MB each. Please label each image as follows: 

Artist Name_Title_Date_Medium_Scale. 

Images must be sent as a Wetransfer and include your full name.

  • Your full name, postal address, email address, link to artist website / Instagram
  • Character referees: please include the contact details of 2 people who would be happy to speak to us over the phone and provide a character reference
  • Artist statement (up to 350 words) 
  • Covering letter describing why this opportunity would be beneficial and what you hope to achieve (up to 500 words)

 – Any working, professional artist over 18 years old, with a deep commitment to their practice 

– Quality of work and the potential for the residency to make a positive impact an artist’s practice

- Submissions are reviewed by a committee comprising members of the Block 336 board and management team as well as resident studio artists. The committee will evaluate applications and make the selection.

Do I need to be living in the boroughs mentioned?

Yes. Artists need to currently living in one of the following boroughs: Lewisham, Southwark, Lambeth or Wandsworth 

What expenses are covered?

Block 336 is offering a free artist studio (total occupied by the artist: 13 sq m) for 3 months which is inclusive of WiFi, electric and water. Artists will be expected to cover their own transport, materials, living and any insurance costs. Please note there are no per diems offered and no accommodation is offered as part of the studio residency.
