This work is part of the Medallions series. They were made in lockdown and imagine condensed matter and energy; emotional and physical lumps in the body. They consider how our cells and tissues, muscles and bones collect and store memory and accumulate emotional energy. Through layering paint and line drawing as a way of thinking about externalising this coagulated matter, the paintings transformed them into trophies or medals. The medallions can be attached to the body and worn as a symbol of acclaim relating to spiritual and emotional accomplishment. These works playfully mock awards given both in the art world and wider society and acknowledge personal turmoil and transformation.
